We Follow Safe Work Practices
In September 2016, WorkSafe New Zealand’s Code of Practice for the Management and Removal of Asbestos was approved by Hon Michael Woodhouse, the then-Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety, under section 222 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
The Code advises that, wherever possible, asbestos should be wet before it is removed lest asbestos fibres are generated in needlessly excessive numbers. The Code also urges asbestos removers to enact suitable measures for controlling the risk of airborne asbestos fibre generation.
How Do We Dispose of Asbestos Waste?
The Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016 call on asbestos removers to confirm that asbestos waste is suitably contained and clearly marked before it is removed.
We also transfer asbestos waste to closed containers before disposing of it. The disposal itself must take place at a landfill site a territorial local or territorial authority has approved for this purpose.
The asbestos remover will also need to hold a particular permit before they can arrange for the burial of asbestos at a landfill. Again, this is a requirement that Reliable Contracting Group meets as standard.
